Best / Worst: Spielberg Films – We Want Your Votes
With the release of the highly anticipated The Adventures of Tintin looming, we at Filmophilia have decided to make a list of Steven Spielberg’s best and worst films of his directing career. But instead of assigning a single, highly biased writer to the project, we want your opinion, dear readers. What are, in your opinion, the brightest gems and foulest stinkers of Spielberg’s prolific career? Telling us is easy.
A: Scroll down to the comment field.
B: Write down your opinion of 1 to 3 great and 1 to 3 awful titles from Spielberg’s resume in the comments.
C: If you like, write a short reason for your choices. We might feature them in the finished list.
D: If you don’t want to make your opinion public for any reason, you can mail us at filmophilianews@gmail.com with your choices.
NOTE: Only films directed by Spielberg are eligible. To include his production credits would be an exercise in futility.
Go on now. Vote. And get your friends to vote too. Even try to persuade them what to vote. Get angry and argue bitterly with them when they don’t agree with you. Don’t invite them to your next party. Unfriend them on Facebook, delete them from your phone book and don’t respond when they try to contact you. Pretend not to see them when you meet them in the street. Get new friends. Repeat process.

5. A.I.: From David’s Discovery of The Blue Fairy…Otherwise a Lovely Film.
It’s trends of his that irritate you in the moment, but in retrospect you realise that it should have been anticipated. There will be a contrived absent-Father complex, ‘good’ will prevail, aliens will land, ‘evil’ will realise the err of its ways, lovers will kiss at altogether inappropriate moments…and it’s fairly forgivable as it is Steven Spielberg. My one issue is his lending his likeness to the DVDs of all the films he releases.
Is he firmly wedged up his own arse? Absolutely, but he’s found several interesting films there and has formally apologised for digitizing ET.
I often find myself hating and loving Stevie for many the same reasons.
‘Aliens, in fucking Indiana Jones, you absolute fu-…I suppose it *is* Steven Spielberg…fair enough.’
Are aliens (or rather inter-dimensional creatures) really more far fetched than the literal power of god melting Nazi faces, human hearts catching fire post-chest removal and a several century old knight protecting the cup of Christ?
Also, never preemptively put things on best or worst list (unless of course it’s a list of upcoming things). Everything deserves a chance to be judged on its own merits.

Best: Schindler’s List, Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark
Worst: The Terminal, Hook
Best 1. Jaws- Jaws is just an all around perfect film. It has fully fleshed out characters that the audience can emotional invest with. The film has plenty of scares and will keep your attention for the entire two hour runtime. However I’ve never had a film that I can rematch as much as Jaws. No matter how many times you watch Jaws it never bores you, there is just a certain flow Jaws has that makes it special.
2. Schindlers list- Schindlers list is the most powerful moving going experience I’ve ever had. At times I had a sort of numb feeling having to witness all the horror that surrounded the holocaust. The film is brilliantly acted, written, and directed, making it Spielberg’s ultimate masterpiece, just not my personal favorite.
3. Saving private Ryan- Saving private Ryan like Schindlers list is a very powerful movie experience. The film is a very gritty, epic war drama that illustrates the evilness of war.
Worst. 1. Jurassic world: the lost world- The lost world is a pointless movie, it just feels like a reap off of the first film. The special effects are significantly worse in this film compared to the original and the characters are uninteresting as well. The thrills from the first were completely taken out of this installment to give us a boring, long movie.
2. Indian Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull- Crystal Skull almost ruined the Indian Jones franchise. Shia Labeouf ruined ever scene he was in and Indian felt a little worn out himself. Also aliens. Why are there aliens in an Indian Jones movie? Spielberg shouldn’t have listened to Lucas on that one.
3. The Terminal- The Terminal isn’t necessarily a bad film it’s just not as good as some of Spielberg’s other work. The Terminal could have been more.
Best:
Raiders
War of the Worlds
Jaws
Worst:
AI
Hook
Always
Best
Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial, Raiders of the Lost Ark
