Daily Trailer: Lock-Out – A Prison Movie… in SPACE!

Luc Besson returns to sci-fi for the first time since 1997′s brilliant The Fifth Element. Even though it’s only in a writing capacity, Lock-Out still looks like a potentially fun return to 90s sci-fi romps.

Remember trailer voice-overs? Prepare for a refresher course on the subject.

The fantastic Guy Pearce seems to be channeling 80s Kurt Russell while Besson borrows elements from Escape From L.A. but moves the events to the vastness of space. The wrongfully convicted (but not in space though) Pearce, the best there is, can earn his freedom if he saves the President’s daughter (Maggie Grace, Liam Neeson‘s daughter from Taken) from an impenetrable, maximum security orbital prison. Add explosions and snarky, deadpan dialogue from Pearce and things start looking mighty entertaining.

Direction is in the untested hands of James Mather & Stephen St. Leger, hopefully they can deliver an enjoyable genre flick.

Lock-Out, possibly titled MS One: Maximum Security in some territories, opens on April 20th.
