Paul Verhoeven Turning Own Book Into Jesus Film
Paul Verhoeven, who some might call a master of satire through insane action and gore, will be adapting his own book, Jesus of Nazareth, to film. Verhoeven plans to direct the film himself, while Roger Avary, of Pulp Fiction fame, will be writing the script. The book, the fruit of decades of research by Verhoeven, explores the life of Jesus as a normal man, discounting all the miracles of the New Testament and instead focuses on the enduring gospel that he preached.
The film joins a slew of other upcoming religious themed works, including the likes of Darren Aronofsky‘s Noah (the story of the ark), Ridley Scott‘s Exodus (a Moses film) and Steven Spielberg‘s Gods and Kings (another Moses film), as well as professional tolerant person, Mel Gibson‘s Hanukkah themed film.

The could be interesting … or a total disaster.
I’d say more likely a total disaster. As a devout Catholic, I think it is pointless and downright damaging to separate Jesus’ human and divine natures – the Hypostatic Union.
A drawing line for me would be how Jesus was depicted in Martin Scorsese’s “THE LAST TEMPTATION OF CHRIST”. That’s as far as I would teeter-totter on speculation.
