News Round-Up June 25th
Here’s an idea we’re trying on for size. While we’ll always bring you full articles on the most interesting news the film world has to offer we thought we might sum up the “interesting but not quite worth an entire post” news at each point. Are you ready?
According to Empire Aaron Eckhart will play the president of the United States in Olympus Has Fallen. Eckhart joins Gerald Butler in the terrorist-attack-the-White-House-plot directed by Antoine Fuqua. Training Day was good and Aaron Eckhart is a good actor and all but we remain un-psyched. Also, why does Hollywood always bring out the same story twice? Ronald Emmerich‘s White House Down is essentially the same film. Full Story.
On the British side Mark Strong is teaming up with long time friend and Lock, Stock.. actor turned director Dexter Fletcher for a western set in Arizona called Provenance. Why a British director wants to do a western in America starring a British cast we don’t know, but who knows, it might turn out allright. Full Story.
Rob Reiner is doing a thriller proving to all he’s not gone completely soft in his old age. You Belong To Me‘s script supposedly reeled him in on a surprise twist ending to a tale of a psychiatrist who lets one of his patients too close. Count us in. Full Story.
Scott Waugh will be directing Need for Speed. Yes, the film based on the video game. When will you learn Hollywood? Full Story.
Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis‘s The Campaign has gotten new posters. We have to say they look pretty decent. This might be a funny one. Full Story.
David Fincher is one on our “must always keep a watch on” list. We are therefore officially interested in IOU, now that he’s producing. Full Story.
The Expendables 2 is getting less and less hot as its premiere draws closer. Still hoping to blow up a hype the promotional team have let out new stills for us to swoon over. We’re not. We want explosions, not stills of people walking! Full Story.
