Lionsgate Pulling a Potter with Third Hunger Games Film
Now this isn’t really surprising. Following in the young adult footsteps of Harry Potter and Twilight, the final installment in The Hunger Games series will be split into two films. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 will be released on November 21, 2014 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 on November 20, 2015. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire of course comes out on November 22, 2013.
Having read the books I’m not sure if this is the optimal way to go, for the sake of the film. Part 1 might become sort of a non-event as the book is very back-loaded. At least this might benefit the characterization and get people more invested. And it’ll make Lionsgate an extra $500 million+ at the box office. Seems like a brilliant move on their part. We’ll now have a regular check in on Katniss Everdeen and her plights each November over the next three years.
