Marvel Officially Reveal Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America 2 Story and More
Now it’s official. After everything pointed to a Guardians of the Galaxy film, Marvel have made it official at their Comic-Con panel. They didn’t reveal much about the film but they did show a logo and a piece of concept art, indeed confirming that Rocket Raccoon will be on the team. It seems logical to assume that they’ll go up against Thanos. Expect this to be sort of Marvel’s Star Wars.
Also revealed was the title of the Captain America sequel: Captain America – The Winter Soldier. The name comes from a fantastic story arc by Ed Brubaker in the comics, involving Cap’s buddy Bucky Barnes (who fell from a train in the mountains in The First Avenger, laying the seeds), a high dose of brainwashing and secret assassinations. It’s a fantastic story and, if done right, could make for a fantastic film.
The Thor sequel will be titled Thor: The Dark World. The title doesn’t seem to inform any sort of connection with the comics so we’re flying blind with that one.
Marvel also showed test footage for Ant-Man, filmed by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, who wrote the film together. It hasn’t made its way online yet, but reports indicate that it seems to be of a more purebred comedic kind. We can’t wait to get our eyeballs on it. They confirmed the film for a 2014 release date. As my very first Filmophilia post was on Ant-Man, I can say that this makes me immensely happy.
So, satisfied at Marvel’s initial Phase Two offerings?
