At long last the highly anticipated X-Men spin-off The Wolverine is finally making progress, and to build on its already growing fan excitement, Fox has released a revealing new synopsis for the film.
“Based on the celebrated comic-book arc,” begins the statement, “The Wolverine finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.”
Thanks to Chris Claremont and Frank Miller’s take on the character, Wolverine will be traveling to Japan, finding himself in love with the daughter of a powerful Yakuza crime lord.
To publicize the film just a tad more, director James Mangold not so subtly provided us, via Twitter, a few new updates on the project. “Movies I think about as I make #TheWolverine,” he starts. “Eastwood’s Josie Wales, Powell’s Black Narcissus, Hitchcock’s Rear Window, Marnie, Vertigo.”
“Today I am starting an intense set piece of action and drama at the Yashida Compound set. Logan, Yukio and Shingen. Just finished pages. Made some tweaks. Scribbled out fresh shot list. About to head to set for day 14 of THE WOLVERINE.”
Staring Hugh Jackman with Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Hal Yamanouchi, Tao Okamoto, Rila Fukushima and the ever so talented Svetlana Khodchenkova (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) The Wolverine is set to hit theaters July 26th, 2013.
