News from Phase Two of Marvel’s superhero epics continues to excite fans, and this latest tidbit is sure to do the same. ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, Marvel’s surprise announcement at this year’s Comic Con, is close to scoring a director.
James Gunn, best known for ‘Slither‘ and ‘Super‘, is apparently moments from joining the production. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn was chosen from a list that included Peyton Reed (‘Bring it On‘, ‘Yes Man‘) and the duo of Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden (‘Half Nelson‘). Marvel, much like film fanatics, like Gunn’s sensibility as well as his ability to mix action and horror.
His knack for comedy will no doubt come in handy as well. ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy’, which will lead into 2015′s ‘The Avengers 2‘, features a team of galactic heroes who must stop the death-worshipping Thanos. Among members of the team are Groot, a living tree, and Rocket Racoon, a….well, raccoon with rockets.
Fans can keep resting easy, as it seems Marvel is just going to keep making the right choices. Now, with Gunn and Whedon at the helm, it must only be a matter of time before Nathan Fillion gets a role in the Marvel Universe, right?
