Kick-Ass Sequel Eyeing Jim Carrey for Supporting Role?
Kick-Ass can never be accused of not being crazy. Matthew Vaughn‘s 2010 film was stupendously fun, featured a career launching turn by Chloë Grace Moretz, possibly Nicolas Cage‘s finest performance, amazing music and copious amounts of bloody violence. It wasn’t a rampant commercial hit but it did enough to get a sequel green-lit.
Most of the (surviving) principal cast will be returning, Aaron Johnson, Moretz & Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and they’ll be joined by some new faces. Previously, we’ve reported on casting news for the film, with Donald Faison joining the cast. Now there’s considerable more movement. John Leguizamo recently signed on and the producers are reportedly chasing Lindy Booth for a role.
The biggest news of all though is that they are apparently trying to get Jim Carrey for what’s described as a “showy supporting role”. Sounds like that’s in his wheel house. Carrey is in talks to play a character know as The Colonel, who among other things has his dog chomp on someone’s genitals. Sounds like Mark Millar to me. It also sounds like a great casting and a fun role to see Carrey let loose on, similar to Cage’s turn in the first film.
Based on Mark Millar’s sequel to the original graphic novel, Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall will be helmed and written by Jeff Wadlow, best known for Never Back Down. It’s slated for release on June 28th, 2013. I, for one, am quite excited.
