You know what’s refreshing? A romantic comedy that isn’t lovey-dovey bullshit. That’s why The To-Do List seems interesting. It’s a high-concept comedy about a high school overachiever that decides that she has to run down the list of sexual escapades she missed do to her focus on studying in school. Sounds reasonable.
Despite not being a complete laugh-fest of a trailer there’s still hope for this. Aubrey Plaza, probably best known for her role on Parks & Recreation as well as a supporting role in Funny People, is a pretty funny woman with a knack for deadpan delivery and she’s aided by a stellar cast of modern comedy greats. Rachel Bilson, Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, Scott Porter, Connie Britton, Clark Gregg, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Donald Glover, Johnny Simmons, Sarah Steele and Alia Shawkat is a list of actors any comedy can pride itself of.
The film, previously titled The Hand Job (sometimes change is for the better), was written and directed by Maggie Carey, perhaps best known for her documentary, Ladyporn.
The To-Do List opens next Valentine’s Day.
