Well, if Slashfilm, film producer Avi Arad and the original MGS creator Hideo Kojima are anything to go by, then yes. According to /Film, Kojima announced during a Metal Gear Anniversary event in Tokyo that a film project is finally underway, under the production of The Amazing Spider-Man producer Avi Arad.

MGS is one of those video games, along with the likes of Half-Life and Halo, that Hollywood hasn’t really had the guts to try to adapt yet, what with the spotty track record of transferring video games onto film and all. It’s been close before, though, as in 2007, Michael de Luca was announced to be producing an adaptation of the expansive and groundbreaking action game.

No writers or directors have yet been attached to the project, but Kojima will be executive producing along with Arad, so here’s hoping we’ll be seeing a good adaptation of a video game. Finally.
