Moving from god of thunder to terrorist hunter, Chris Hemsworth (Thor) has been offered a role in upcoming novel-series turned movie American Assassin. Hemsworth would play Mitch Rapp, a college scholar and athlete who finds personal tragedy pushing him to become the CIA’s most relentless anti-terrorism agent. Sure this role would be an obvious type casting move for Hemsworth, but you can’t say the glove wouldn’t fit.
The adaptation is actually from Vince Flynn’s 11th novel in his best-selling series, but since it’s a prequel, it acts as a good starting point for a potential movie franchise. Other talent involved with the feature is director Jeffrey Nachmanoff (Traitor, Homeland), writers Ed Zwick (Defiance) and Marshall Herskovitz (The Last Samurai), and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Nick Wechsler. Now if that didn’t grab your attention perhaps a little Bruce Willis as CIA mentor of sorts might do the trick.
The initial offer to Hemsworth for American Assassin was first reported by Deadline. There is no doubt that Hemsworth can shoulder a franchise, but what seems to be the real killer at the box office is the unstoppable pairing of Hemsworth and Willis.
