Ah, 20th Century Fox. With friends like you, who needs enemies?

Back in March, Max Landis, writer of the surprise hit Chronicle, agreed to provide a screenplay for the sequel. He recently turned it in to 20th Century Fox who….well, they hate it.

He wrote a sequel and it’s amazing. And the studio read it and said, ‘We want ‘Chronicle’ again.’ And he said, ‘No, this is the sequel, it’s the evolution.’ And they said ‘No, we want that movie again.’ So it’s difficult, we’re dealing with a difficult business.’” said Landis’ father, director John Landis.

‘Chronicle’ was a found-footage film detailing the exploits of a trio of friends who suddenly gained superpowers. To say shit proceeded to hit the fan is a bit of an understatement. Max Landis talked about the sequel a while ago, saying: ”That edited footage [in the first movie] is a thing. You can’t deny cars being thrown in the air in Seattle. You saw all those helicopters. The world changed. That’s the end of ‘Chronicle.’ And things are going to be different now. They can’t possibly cover up what happened.”

He also added that star Alex Russell would be returning. “I’m putting him through hell in ‘Chronicle 2,’” he said, adding that the sequel will be about “the world’s first supervillain.

Let’s all hope that artistic integrity prevails and….aw hell, this is Fox. See you all for ‘Chronicle Redux’!
