It appears this week has been full of casting stories. First we mentioned Chris Hemsworth as a possible fit for American Assassin, and now we have Ewan McGregor confirming that he will headline in the Australian heist thriller Son of a Gun. The film centers on the relationship between a veteran thief (McGregor) and his young protégé. Not much more is reported on the picture as of yet, but Variety has reported that Julius Avery will make his feature directorial debut on the project from a script he wrote. The thriller is set to begin filming in Perth, Kalgoorlie, and Western Australia early next year.
Additionally, Jennifer Connelly is set to join A Beautiful Mind screenwriter Akiva Goldsman’s directorial debut, Winter’s Tale. The fantasy tale tells the story of a thief, a dying girl, and a flying white horse in 19th century and contemporary Manhattan, with Colin Farrell and Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey) playing the leads. Conspicuously slotted in the cast, Russell Crowe and Will Smith will be bringing in some star power to a couple of smaller roles. Matt Bomer, William Hurt, Lucy Griffiths, and Eva Marie Saint have also joined on-board as supporting players.
