“A thief with a unique code of professional ethics is double-crossed by his crew and left for dead. Assuming a new disguise and forming an unlikely alliance with a woman on the inside, he looks to hijack the score of the crew’s latest heist.”
This synopsis for Parker certainly sounds like an immense character stretch for Jason Statham, who will be -surprise, surprise- wielding a gun and a grudge in this dramatic actioner, due for release in January, 2013.
Giving some hope that the proceedings might be a little spicier than his recent outings, that have all served to marginalize his appeal to fans of old-fashioned, hard-headed action a la Steven Seagal or Jean-Claude Van Damme, is the fact that Jennifer Lopez will co-star and one Taylor Hackford, the guy who directed films like An Officer and a Gentleman, Proof of Life and Ray, is helming.
The late January date indicates that they’re going to contend for the annual Servicable Winter Thriller Award, claimed by Contraband for this year.
However, the first poster doesn’t exactly blow my mind. Statham looks disinterested about both the massive machine gun in his hand and Lopez’ floating head in his stomach, and the tagline isn’t exactly breaking new ground in action movie territory, although the stark red background does what it can to make it appealing
