It seems the outstanding trailer for ‘Iron Man 3‘ isn’t the only thing us Marvel fanboys are getting today. Rumor has it actor Frank Grillo has met with Marvel and, apparently, tested for the role of Crossbones in the upcoming Captain America sequel.
Grillo, who is best known for his work in ‘The Grey‘ and ‘Warrior‘, took to Twitter to tease fans, talking about his meeting with Marvel while using the hashtag #bones. This came after radio host Matthew Aaron tweeted, “Frank Grillo just tested for Crossbone in the new Marvel movies”.
Crossbones first appeared in the late 1980′s and has more often than not served as a henchman of the Red Skull, who Hugo Weaving played in ‘Captain America: The First Avenger‘. The character also played a role in the assassination of Steve Rogers following Marvel’s Civil War storyline, and has enjoyed a boost in popularity since then.
While nothing has been confirmed, Grillo would make for an excellent addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has plenty of exciting things on his plate, as well, with parts in the upcoming ‘Gangster Squad‘ and ‘Zero Dark Thirty‘.
‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘ will see the return of Chris Evans as Captain America, and will also star Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Sebastian Stan, as well as rumored roles for Anthony Mackie and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
