The mind of Guillermo Del Toro works in mysterious ways, and this new invention of a project is…well, certainly intriguing. It’s largely a rumor for now, and one that doesn’t quite make sense, but as always, you never know…
Warner Bros. is currently head over heels for Del Toro. The director’s latest, Pacific Rim, is apparently testing so well at the moment that they are throwing every property they have at him, including a sequel to Charlie And The Chocolate Factory (what?) and a feature version of V.
Del Toro, on the other hand, has his own grand ambitions, and is said to be planning his own The Avengers -style teamup movie called Heaven Sent. The potential film would feature a bunch of DC Comics characters you’ve (mostly) never heard of, including Deadman, The Spectre, Swamp Thing, John Constantine, Phantom Stranger, Zatanna, Zatara, and Sargon.
This would be an unusual play for the studio seeing as a plan to launch the Justice League, which features the more recognizable top tier heroes, is already in the works. This situation in itself feels almost movie-esque and you got to love Del-Toro’s ambition.
Anyway, something of this nature would happen until a long time from now. Once Del Toro is done with Pacific Rim, he’ll be shifting focus to directing the pilot for The Strain. But of course, dude is a multitasker. So between now and next summer, don’t be surprised if he signs up for another half dozen or so projects.
