Filmophilia.com was founded and launched in late July 2011 on WordPress.com, by a group of young, aspiring film writers. With a focus on writing original articles and in-depth but entertaining commentary on cinema, along with news and reviews, the site’s following has grown steadily since its opening.
In February 2012 Filmophilia was among the first sites admitted into WordPress’ WordAds program, a great honor for such a young site. It is now an admitted media member of UK’s Film Distribution Association.
By July 2012 the number of regular writers had grown to a full dozen, with a daily dose of varied material, ranging from lists, guilty pleasures and forgotten classics to film reviews, breaking news, exclusive interviews and trailer updates.
In July 2012 we moved from our loving nest at WordPress.com to a self-hosted WP.org site, which offer the site a platform to expand its film coverage and commentary even further.
In late 2012 we started a new approach to our news and features, called Chosen Films, where we focus intensely on a small number of films at a time in our news coverage, providing an in-depth look at these films.
NOTE: We are not actively looking for more contributors, but if you are interested in writing for us in the future, you can still contact us at erlingur@filmophilia.com with examples of your work and we will keep you in mind for any possible future writing chances.
